The Turf Bar and Grill, Disney Saratoga Springs Resort, Orlando

Remember how I said we were going to go back to California Grill at the Contemporary for a second shot at dinner? Oh, I am so kidding. By the time we’d been in Orlando that long, my son had had enough of schmancy dinners where he’s expected to stay on his tush and eat dinner quietly. We went to the Contemporary Resort and dutifully checked in for our reservation. He grabbed the pager, ran around shrieking, cried about going on the escalator, whined about the buttons on the elevator, and capped things off by lying down in the middle of the floor near the reservations desk. Suddenly, we realized: there was no way we were getting through another nice dinner without killing one another. We needed something more conducive to our travel-weary state. So the fine folks at CA Grill released our reservation and we headed over to Saratoga Springs for dinner.

The Turf Club is fashioned after your standard boring golf club dining room, only less stuffy. It wasn’t at all busy, which was exactly what we needed. We didn’t order anything cool: my husband had an overly rich tomato-cheese bisque with grilled bread while I had an enormous Caesar salad, and then we both had burgers. The burgers were pretty good though: cooked to order, juicy, offered on a rosemary-flecked bun with Simplot-type fries. Nobody cared that my son (along with the rest of us) was in a crabby mood that our vacation at Disney was ending. We were all smiling at the end, even.

That’s it for this year at Disney, but I’m positive it’s not the end of our explorations of the on-property dining scene. Look for more next summer.
